Start with the form requirement
Indian forms often ask for a recent colour photograph, plain background, specific dimensions, and a strict file size such as 20KB, 50KB, or 100KB. The exact rule changes from portal to portal, so check the instruction text before editing.
Crop before you compress

Background and lighting
